👀: In the glass, it’s a deep garnet—almost black at the core—reminiscent of the leather on a vintage jacket. Swirl the glass, and it lights up with brilliant ruby highlights. Dense and a touch mysterious, but not austere. It’s not the brooding goth sitting at the back of the class; it’s the cool guy in the leather jacket.
.
👃: First impression: black cherry—the kind you’ve just crushed in your hand—blackcurrant, and a hint of candied strawberry. It’s ripe, clean, and vibrant. Then it opens up and gets a bit more playful: blond tobacco, sweet spices, a touch of licorice, and an undertone of damp earth and wet chalk—that clay-rich character reminding you that Fronsac isn't sand; it’s real soil that clings to your boots. Warm, a bit roguish, and incredibly seductive.
.
👄: The attack is charming. Creamy. Silky. You know, the kind of wine that makes you close your eyes instinctively. Thanks to the 90% Merlot, it’s round and fleshy, coating the palate beautifully. Yet, the 2016 vintage retains a lovely freshness. It’s full-bodied and ripe, but never heavy. The tannins? Perfectly integrated. Pure silk. Like caressing a cashmere sweater. Cabernet Franc and Malbec provide just the right amount of spice and backbone. The mid-palate is juicy and fruity, with hints of cocoa and light coffee notes. And the finish—long and elegant—boasts that impressive length everyone in Fronsac talks about. It wraps up with fruit flavors and a subtle chalky note that makes you want to take another bite. Ultra-modern balance. Not overly oaked, nor pumped up like a bodybuilder. Simply perfect.

Food pairing: Duck breast.

Juste parfait.

Here, we're in Fronsac, on the right bank of the Dordogne, on hillsides that unashamedly overlook Bordeaux from afar. Château Haut-Carles is a story of patience and precision, run more like a craft than an industry. No smoke and mirrors: just pampered vines and a desire to stand out through sincérité. In the glass, it's direct. It's dense yet refined, a red that takes its time to speak. You have the ripe fruit that pops, the tannins polished like old river stone, and that deep, almost meditative touch that makes you take your foot off the gas and liste. An estate that proves that Fronsac has nothing to envy anyone; here, we're playing in the big leagues.
