Bourgogne Chassagne Montrachet blanc 1er Cru Morgeot 2022 du Domaine Louis Lequin et fils
A full-bodied, rich, and elegantly oaked Chardonnay, yet with enough tension to avoid the pitfall of heaviness.

Domaine Louis Lequin et Fils – Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" (White Burgundy)
.
Vintage: 2022
.
🍇: Chardonnay
.
👀: The color is a luminous, brilliant golden yellow. Not the sort of shy yellow that stays in the background; here, the wine clearly announces it has something to say. You can sense the richness just by looking at it—suggesting a texture that is unctuous, enveloping, and almost creamy.
.
👃: Initial nose: white-fleshed fruits, ripe pear, and peach, followed by richer, more indulgent notes.
The oak is present but not in a "new IKEA furniture" kind of way. Instead, it complements the fruit with hints of vanilla, hazelnut, brioche, and pastry. It evolves in the glass, revealing fresh butter, a touch of dried fruit, and a slightly toasty quality. Above all, there is that distinctive Burgundian character: a streak of freshness underlying the richness.
.
👄: The attack is broad, generous, and enveloping. The texture is a real highlight of the wine—rich without being heavy, creamy without becoming a caricature. The fruit returns: peach, pear, and ripe citrus. Lees aging and *bâtonnage* (stirring the lees) provide a sense of volume—a gentle, almost milky caress coating the palate. Fortunately, a wave of freshness follows to keep everything in balance. This is where the wine becomes truly compelling: a combination of richness, freshness, and well-integrated oak. The finish lingers gently with notes of hazelnut, citrus, and sweet spices, leaving a lovely saline quality on the palate.
.
Food pairing: Roast chicken with morels.
.

Some estates try to impress. Then there are those that simply pour you a glass and let you discover the magic for yourself.
Welcome to Burgundy, to Louis Lequin & Fils.
Here, there is no need for grand speeches or three-piece suits to talk about wine. This is the Burgundy I love: a place where *terroir* remains at the heart of the conversation, where Chardonnay can be generous without becoming heavy, and where Pinot Noir shows character without trying to be a heavyweight.
What appeals to me about Louis Lequin & Fils is that sense of perfect balance. The wines offer fruit, substance, and the influence of aging, but above all, they possess that subtle vibration—that spark—that makes you want to take another sip to find something you missed the first time around.
And then there is that Burgundian magic: you start by looking at the glass, you bury your nose in it... and five minutes later, you are mentally transported to a road winding through the vineyards, the sun at your back, with a plate of something absolutely delicious sitting right in front of you.
