🍇: Malbec

. 

👀: Dark, almost black, with violet highlights. Dense, serious… but not closed off. It sets the tone: this is a wine for conversation

👃: Direct, frank, and straightforward. Black cherry arrives first, perfectly ripe, almost jammy. Then it gently shifts towards prune, a hint of licorice, and that little touch of bitter cocoa that makes you say, “Okay, now we're playing with the big boys.” And then there's something else in the background… a memory of the cellar, of warm wood, a bit like an old barrel telling its stories. It smells of substance, of earth, of sincerity

👄: A supple, almost caressing attack, and then BAM, it builds structure. The fruit is there, generous, but held in place by well-defined, present tannins. It grips just the right amount, like a firm handshake. The texture is dense, fleshy, but not heavy. It flows well, it breathes. And that finish… slightly spicy, a little smoky, that lingers on the palate like a refrain you don't want to skip.

🍇 : Malbec 

. 

👀: Robe sombre, presque noire, avec des reflets violine. Dense, sérieux… mais pas fermé. Ça annonce la couleur : on est là pour causer.

👃: Direct, franc, sans détour. La cerise noire arrive en premier, bien mûre, presque confiturée. Puis ça bascule doucement vers le pruneau, une touche réglissée, et ce petit côté cacao amer qui te fait dire “ok, là on joue dans la cour des grands”. Et puis y’a un truc en fond… un souvenir de cave, de bois chaud, un peu comme si une vieille barrique racontait ses histoires. Ça sent la matière, ça sent la terre, ça sent la sincérité.

👄 : Attaque souple, presque caressante et BAM, ça se structure derrière. Le fruit est là, généreux, mais tenu par des tanins bien présents, bien dessinés. Ça accroche juste ce qu’il faut, comme une poignée de main ferme. La texture est dense, charnue, mais pas lourde. Ça circule bien, ça respire. Et cette finale… légèrement épicée, un peu fumée, qui reste en bouche comme un refrain qu’on a pas envie de zapper.

Château Souleillou isn't the kind of place that grabs you by the throat with slick marketing. No. It's tucked away quietly near Cahors, where the vines take their time, where the wind whispers stories to the leaves, and where people work without making too much noise. Here, you can feel that winemaking is a family affair, a story of patience, of gestures repeated a thousand times… but never mechanical.

What do I love about them? It's this blend of rusticity and indulgence. Souleillou's Malbec isn't a three-piece suit. It's an open shirt, a little wrinkled, with character and a wry smile. It delivers fruit, real fruit, dark fruit, dense fruit… but always with this human touch, never stiff. You get the feeling that the wine is still alive, that it's breathing, that it has something to say, even after the second glass.

Château Souleillou, c’est pas le genre d’endroit qui te saute à la gorge avec du marketing bien lissé. Non. C’est planqué tranquille du côté de Cahors, là où les vignes prennent leur temps, où le vent raconte des trucs aux feuilles, et où les gens bossent sans faire trop de bruit. Ici, on sent que le vin est une histoire de famille, de patience, de gestes répétés mille fois… mais jamais mécaniques.

Ce que j’aime chez eux ? C’est ce mélange de rusticité et de gourmandise. Le Malbec version Souleillou, c’est pas un costume trois pièces. C’est une chemise ouverte, un peu froissée, avec du caractère et un sourire en coin. Ça envoie du fruit, du vrai, du noir, du dense… mais toujours avec ce côté humain, jamais figé. T’as l’impression que le vin vit encore, qu’il respire, qu’il a des choses à dire, même après le deuxième verre.
