Sauternes Cuvée Madame de Rayne Vigneau from Château Rayne Vigneau

Vintage: 2016

. 

👀: Deep gold color, like a melted ingot in a sunbeam. Thick, slowly falling tears. It's like apricot syrup with a PhD in elegance

.

👃: First nose: a burst of candied mango, roasted apricot, acacia honey. Second nose: it opens like a secret drawer, saffron, orange zest, beeswax, a hint of marzipan

.

👄: Soft attack, liquid velvet. A fruity explosion, as if a basket of exotic fruits had jumped into a tarte Tatin. Smooth but not heavy on the palate, a balanced sugar/acidity that moonwalks on the tongue. The finale is endless. Saffron, candied citrus, honey. It lingers, it floats, it's wonderful.

Millésime : 2016 

. 

👀: Robe or profond, genre lingot fondu dans un rayon de soleil. Larmes épaisses qui descendent lentement. On dirait du sirop d’abricot qui a fait un doctorat en élégance.

👃: Premier nez : paf, mangue confite, abricot rôti, miel d’acacia. Deuxième nez : ça s’ouvre comme un tiroir secret, safran, zeste d’orange, cire d’abeille, petite touche de pâte d’amande.

. 

👄 : Attaque douce, velours liquide. Explosion fruitée, comme si un panier de fruits exotiques avait sauté dans une tarte tatin. Bouche onctueuse mais pas lourde, équilibré sucre/acidité qui fait un moonwalk sur la langue. Finale, interminable. Safran, agrumes confits, miel. Ça reste, ça flotte, c'est merveilleux.

Château Description

Perched on the heights of Bommes, the estate overlooks the Sauternes region as one might overlook an inland sea. Here, there's no ostentation or garish gilding: Rayne Vigneau embodies quiet elegance. A Premier Grand Cru Classé that has never needed to raise its voice to command respect. The vines breathe, the seasons do their work, and botrytis arrives when it please, not when it's whistled at.

In their wines, I always sense this calm, almost soothing light. The sugar is there, of course, but never cloying, never demonstrative. This is a Sauternes that favors freshness over excess, precision over baroque. It tastes of ripe fruit, delicate honey, sweet spices… but above all, it tastes of time well spent. A wine that doesn't grab you by the throat, but rather embraces you by the shoulder. 

Description du Château 

Perché sur les hauteurs de Bommes, le domaine regarde le Sauternais comme on regarde une mer intérieure. Ici, pas de tape-à-l’œil ni de dorures criardes : Rayne Vigneau, c’est l’élégance tranquille. Un Premier Grand Cru Classé qui n’a jamais eu besoin de hausser la voix pour se faire respecter. Les vignes respirent, les saisons font leur boulot, et le botrytis arrive quand il veut, pas quand on lui siffle.

Dans leurs vins, je ressens toujours cette lumière calme, presque apaisante. Le sucre est là, bien sûr, mais jamais collant, jamais démonstratif. C’est un Sauternes qui préfère la fraîcheur à l’excès, la précision au baroque. Ça goûte le fruit mûr, le miel fin, les épices douces… mais surtout ça goûte le temps bien fait. Un vin qui ne te saute pas à la gorge, qui t’attrape plutôt par l’épaule.
